Why QED?
QED is an acronym for the Latin phrase quod erat demonstrandum, meaning which was to be demonstrated – or, more colloquially, it is shown. Nowadays, it appears most commonly at the end of mathematical proofs (like the ones you did in high school geometry). A curious choice for the name of a theater company...
... but we saw an appealing logic in it. The rules of theater differ wildly from mathematical rules, but theater does operate within a defined framework. And while the concept of “proof” does not apply in the same way, many productions still fall short of creating a truthful human experience on stage. So, in choosing QED, we remind ourselves that the proof is waiting for us on opening night.
Of course, QED stands for many other things too. Here are some of our favorites:
Quick, Everyone Duck
Quibble Every Day
Question Every Decision
Quietly Eating Doughnuts
